Kidnapped American Tourist Is Freed

A kidnapped American tourist is safe and sound after an unexpectedly dramatic vacation. In Uganda for a safari, Kimberly Sue Endicott and her local guide were abducted at gunpoint from Queen Elizabeth National Park on Tuesday night and held for $500,000. The Guardian says it's unclear whether money exchanged hands, while the New York Times and ABC News say it did, but how much is unknown. CNN and the Times quote a source saying the touring company Wild Frontiers paid for their release Sunday. A company official says the California esthetician and her guide, Jean-Paul Mirenge Remezo, are "enjoying a square meal and hot shower" at a camp in Uganda. (More kidnapping stories.)
