Stanford Expels Student Embroiled in Admissions Scandal

The only Stanford student known to be associated with the massive college admissions scandal has been expelled from the university, the Stanford Daily reports. The female student, whose identity hasn't been released, was admitted through the standard process—not as a recruited athlete—but her application included falsified sailing credentials, which is grounds for expulsion, and after she was admitted, a $500,000 contribution was made to Stanford's sailing program. Stanford's former head sailing coach, John Vandemoer, was fired and pleaded guilty to recommending non-sailors as recruited athletes in exchange for donations. Officials say donations were made to Stanford's sailing program on behalf of two other individuals as part of the scam, but one of those was denied admission and the other enrolled at Brown instead, per the Chronicle.
