Police in Phoenix say an armed witness prevented the kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl who was on her way to school. Police say the suspect grabbed the girl from behind, pulling her arm behind his back and putting his arm over her face, Fox 10 reports. The witness then intervened and knocked the man to the ground before telling him to leave the girl alone, according to police Sgt. Tommy Thompson. Police say the witness then pointed a handgun at the suspect and told him to leave. Police say the April 3 incident was not reported to authorities until several days later, reports the Arizona Republic. The suspect, who is still at large, was described as a black male with green eyes and a stud-style nose ring. (Police in West Virginia say an alleged kidnap attempt was a "cultural misunderstanding.")
