'I Won't Do It,' Says Trump on Day of Deadline for His Taxes

Theresa May is busy worrying about an April 12 deadline; President Trump doesn't sound bothered by an April 10 one the IRS is facing. Rep. Richard Neal, who heads the House Ways and Means Committee, last week asked the IRS to pony up six years of Trump's personal and business tax returns and gave them 7 days to do so. In comments to reporters as Trump departed the White House for Texas on Wednesday, he reiterated that he wouldn't voluntarily produce his returns and again cited an audit as his reasoning.

"There is no law. As you know, I got elected last time with the same issue, and while I'm under audit, I won't do it. If I'm not under audit I would do it, I have no problem with it. Under audit I wouldn't give my taxes." Politico reports he added that "frankly the people don’t care." ABC News reports IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig has not yet indicated how he will respond to Neal's request, saying, "We received the letter, we’re working on the letter with counsel, and we anticipate responding."
