At least one poll has Joe Biden as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, and he's starting to acquire some endorsements. One in particular appears to have riled President Trump, who fired off a predawn tweetstorm Monday addressing it. The International Association of Fire Fighters gave Biden its nod on Monday, the former vice president's first union endorsement, and Politico notes that with his appeal to middle-class voters, as well as Trump's history of rows with unions, Biden will likely be receiving more of the same. But it was this first backing from IAFF that especially riled Trump, and led to his first tweet Wednesday morning clocking in before 6am.
"I've done more for Firefighters than this dues sucking union will ever do, and I get paid ZERO!" the president tweeted, along with a RT from Fox News contributor Dan Bongino, who noted, "NONE of the Firemen I know are supporting Joe Biden for President." The Washington Post notes this was followed by Trump retweeting some 60 posts from people claiming to be upset with the IAFF endorsement for Biden. And the word "claiming" may be an important one: The Daily Beast reports that one user who earned a coveted retweet from the president boasted the username "F--- Donald Trump"; it's unclear if the name already appeared like that when Trump retweeted it or if the user changed it after it appeared in Trump's feed. That particular retweet was taken down sometime around 9am ET. (More President Trump stories.)
