Attorney General William Barr opted not to appear Thursday before the House Judiciary Committee, after his lengthy testimony before a Senate panel on Wednesday. As a result, Democrats are now taunting him as a chicken. Toward that end, Rep. Steve Cohen not only placed a toy chicken by Barr's empty witness seat, he brought a bucket of KFC to eat, reports Mediaite. "Chicken Barr should have shown up today and answered questions," said Cohen, per the AP, and the Hill notes that panel chief Rep. Jerry Nadler voiced a similar sentiment. "He has failed the men and women of the [Justice] Department by placing the needs of the President over the fair administration of justice," Nadler said, referring to Barr's handling of the Mueller report. "He has even failed to show up today."

While Democrats were making political hay over Barr's testimony Wednesday and lack thereof on Thursday, Barr got a strong defense from the conservative editorial page of the Wall Street Journal. "This trashing of Bill Barr shows how frustrated and angry Democrats continue to be that the special counsel came up empty in his Russia collusion probe," says the editorial. "He was supposed to be their fast-track to impeachment," but the facts just weren't there. Now, "they’re shouting and pounding the table against Bill Barr for acting like a real Attorney General."
