Theron: This Is How Hollywood 'Slaps You in the Face'

For Charlize Theron, it was a defining moment—and one that reflects how Hollywood recasts women the moment they turn 40, USA Today reports. Appearing on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, the actor responded to a rumor she had turned down the film role of Wonder Woman, which went to Gal Godot. "I did not turn the role of Wonder Woman down," says Theron, per Vanity Fair. "This is a great of example of how Hollywood slaps you in the face when you start aging. So somebody had said to me, 'Oh, there’s action on this thing, Wonder Woman—we just want to make you aware of it.'"

"And I was like, 'I'm just not familiar with it ... I mean, what does Wonder Woman do?' And this person said, 'No, it’s for Wonder Woman’s mom.'" As she, Cohen, and Seth Rogen laugh, Theron adds, "It was the defining moment where I crossed over. And I wasn't fully aware of it." Naturally, Rogen couldn't resist his own zinger: "They wanted me to be Batman's rabbi." For the record, Theron is 43, and Godot only nine years younger at 34.
