Now Slamming Fired Lunch Lady: Mom of the Boy She Fed

A New Hampshire school cafeteria worker was fired after giving a student free food when he reportedly didn't have enough money to pay for it, and then, after national media attention, she rebuffed the school vendor's offer to rehire her. Now, some new twists involving Bonnie Kimball, from a rather surprising corner: the parents of the boy she gave the food to. "I have three children, and they are all well-cared for and well-fed," the mom tells the Union Leader, noting her 17-year-old son is tasked with packing his own lunch. Kimball "did not get fired for feeding a hungry child," she says. More:

• An exec with Cafe Services, the vendor that provides the lunches for Mascoma Valley Regional High School, adds that Kimball had been giving the boy free food for three months. During the incident in question, Brian Stone says Kimball not only let the teen have a free lunch, but also four additional a la carte items, per CNN—fries, cookies, and a Powerade.

• Kimball also lied and said she'd charged the boy, Stone says in a YouTube video: "This employee was dishonest and was let go for not following procedures."
• The Union Leader reports that on Monday Kimball told the paper that she would let the boy charge his meals to his friends' or girlfriend's accounts because he was a well-liked "jock."
• The boy's mom notes Kimball also tried to drag her son into covering up the gratis grub, sending him private Facebook messages before she was fired asking him to add money to his account and openly pay for lunch in front of a manager who'd be watching. "We will prolly get written up, but we can make it look good. Lol," she wrote in a message seen by the Union Leader. "What kind of an adult says that to a child?" the mom asks, adding that in another message Kimball tried to get the boy to gather classmates to talk to a reporter about Kimball's firing.
• Mascoma Valley Superintendent Amanda Isabelle now says in a statement that, due to this new info, "the school district is rescinding its demand that the employee be rehired." WMUR reports Cafe Services says company policy is to always provide a child with a lunch; it called attention to the four extra items the teen was reportedly given.
