Wife and Daughter of Coach Killed in Head-On Collision

A head-on collision Saturday in Michigan killed the wife and daughter of Howard Moore, a University of Wisconsin assistant basketball coach, and left him in a coma. Moore is expected to recover. His son, Jerrell, had minor injuries. The accident was caused by a woman who was driving the wrong way and was killed in the crash, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Moore's daughter, Jaidyn, died at the scene. His wife, Jennifer, was taken off life support and died at a hospital, per the Detroit News; she was driving the family's car and was not at fault. The driver of a third vehicle involved received minor injuries.

"Jennifer was a sweetheart," said the school's men's hockey coach. "She always had a smile on her face." Expressions of sorrow and sympathy were quickly posted on social media. "I just pulled over to the side of the road and sobbed when I heard the news about Coach Moore's wife and daughter," one man tweeted. "I can't understand it." Moore played at Wisconsin, then served as an assistant coach at several schools and head coach for Illinois-Chicago for five seasons. Moore is "such a genuine individual," said Mike Mahnke, a public-address announcer at Wisconsin games: "All the stuff you are seeing on social media, the incredible outpouring of love for him, goes a long way to show how many people he has touched."
