Man Suspected of Killing Son's Wife Now on Most-Wanted List

If he's alive, Eugene Palmer is 80. "His age doesn’t change the level of violence in this crime," says a special agent with the FBI's New York office. Palmer on Wednesday became the 523rd person added to the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list over the Sept. 24, 2012, murder of daughter-in-law Tammy Palmer in Stony Point, New York. Haverstraw Police Detective Michael Cruger says that as Tammy's marriage with Palmer's son began to fall apart, things unraveled between her and the elder Palmer as well. Fox News reports Tammy had secured an order of protection against her husband, and it prevented him from visiting the land on which both Tammy and Palmer lived. Per the Westchester Journal News, authorities think Palmer "became enraged that his son was banned from the family compound."

As the 39-year-old headed up her driveway after accompanying her children to catch the school bus, she was shot at three times and died. Palmer is then believed to have driven into the 45,000-acre Harriman State Park adjacent to the family's property. His vehicle was located located about a quarter-mile in within hours of Tammy's murder. Though he was known as a "mountain man," his family has said they believe he died in that park, citing his diabetes and heart condition. Police disagree, and think he may be living under an alias in upstate New York or Florida. They consider him armed and dangerous and have offered a $100,000 reward for info leading to his capture. He is described as 5-foot-10, largely bald, and with a misshaped left thumb. (More Most Wanted stories.)
