Tammy Lawrence-Daley's story of being brutalized and left for dead at a Dominican Republic resort is getting a lot of attention—but now the resort is pushing back. In a lengthy statement released to CBS Philadelphia, the Majestic Elegance Punta Cana Hotel says that a search was launched within minutes of Lawrence-Daley's husband reporting her missing, and that after a hotel employee found Lawrence-Daley at 6:40am "in a restricted area of the hotel," authorities were immediately notified and Lawrence-Daley was taken to a hospital. The resort also says a staff member stayed with the Delaware woman at the hospital to ensure all her needs were met, the hotel paid for her hospital stay, her entire party was offered a complimentary extension of their stay while she recovered, and during that time special food was prepared for her.
The resort says a delegate from the US Embassy also visited Lawrence-Daley in the hospital, but that "she refused to present any legal accusations despite the recommendations of the local authorities." The statement says Lawrence-Daley later "formally demanded a $2.2 million compensation agreement," then "disclosed her version of the case, four months after it happened," when the resort didn't pay. The resort says "there are weak points and unanswered questions to answer in this strange and unusual case." It also alleges that Lawrence-Daley's story included "contradictions and confusing data" that have caused authorities to believe she is hiding something by blaming a resort worker. Earlier this week, Dominican Republic police similarly claimed there are "holes" in the case and said the investigation is not complete, the New York Post reports. (See Lawrence-Daley's story here.)
