When Brett Kavanaugh was up for Senate confirmation to the Supreme Court last summer, Yale law professor Amy Chua came to his defense. In a Wall Street Journal opinion piece, Chua praised Kavanaugh—who was facing sexual assault and misconduct accusations at the time—as a mentor to young lawyers, especially to young women. "But for my own daughter, there is no judge I would trust more than Brett Kavanaugh," she wrote. It has worked out that way: Chua's daughter has been hired to clerk for Kavanaugh this fall, Newsweek reports. Sophia Chua-Rubenfeld graduated from Yale last year. All of Kavanaugh's clerks will be women, which drew praise from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg last week.

Chua was criticized at the time by those who said her daughter was clearly in line for a clerkship with Kavanaugh. She'd been hired to clerk for him in his old job, though that fell through when he was nominated to the Supreme Court, per the Washington Post. Chua-Rubenfeld answered that by saying she had no plans to apply for a Supreme Court clerkship "anytime soon" because of schedule conflicts. Chua faced other criticism, as well. Female law students said the "Tiger Mother" author had advised them to dress a certain way when interviewing with Kavanaugh, and had said it was no accident that his female clerks "look like models." Chua denied those statements, but students repeated the allegations. (More Amy Chua stories.)
