President Trump didn't seem to flinch when asked his biggest regret: "I would say if I had one do-over, it would be, I would not have appointed Jeff Sessions to be attorney general," he said in a interview with Meet the Press host Chuck Todd. "That was the biggest mistake." As Bloomberg recalls, Sessions refused to oversee the Justice Department's probe of Russia interference in the 2016 election, which led to the naming of Robert Mueller as special counsel—and Trump never seemed to forgive Sessions. Among other highlights from the sit-down chat, which aired Sunday:

  • Is he prepared to lose in 2020? "No. Probably not," Trump said, per Yahoo. "It would be much better if I said, 'Yeah.' It would be much easier for me to say, 'Oh yes.' No, I’m probably not too prepared to lose. I don't like losing. I haven't lost very much in my life."
  • Did losing the popular vote bother him? "I'll say something that, again, is controversial," Trump said, per Newsweek. "There were a lot of votes that I don’t believe. There was much illegal voting" and California "admitted to one million votes." That refers to a Judicial Watch lawsuit requiring Los Angeles County to remove up to 1.5 million inactive voters, but Yahoo notes there was no evidence of ballots cast in those names.
  • "Hillary Clinton was a great candidate. She was very smart. She was very tough. She was ruthless and vicious," Trump said, per NBC News. "I would actually rather run against Biden. Sleepy Joe. He's sleepy. She was not sleepy."
  • "I'm not looking for war, and if there is, it'll be obliteration like you’ve never seen before," Trump said of his administration's growing tensions with Iran, per Politico. "But I’m not looking to do that. But you can't have a nuclear weapon."
  • "I'm not even thinking of it. It's so far out. I mean, it's so far out," Trump said when asked about his hesitancy to commit to Mike Pence should he run for president in 2024, per the AP. "Now what happens in 2024? I don't know that Mike is going to run. I don't know who's running or anything else."
