Crews Recover Bodies of 7 Missing Climbers

A search team has recovered the bodies of seven of the eight climbers missing in the Indian Himalayas for a month. The bodies have not been identified, said a government official in northern India, who said returning them to the base camp will take two or three days, per ABC. The search for the eighth climber will go on, officials said.

The group of four Britons, two Americans, an Australian and a man from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation had set out to climb a previously unclimbed, unnamed eastern peak on Nanda Devi, the second-highest mountain in India. The party vanished May 26 after an avalanche, per the Guardian. This season has been especially deadly in the Himalayas this year, with brief periods of safe climbing weather. (Search teams were unable to use a helicopter to reach the climbers' bodies.)
