Security Doesn't Recognize One Democratic Candidate

Name recognition is an issue in politics, as is face recognition, and it's an issue for several Democratic presidential candidates this time. Still, Gov. John Hickenlooper probably didn't expect to have to introduce himself when he arrived in Miami on Wednesday for the two nights of candidate debates. But he did. A security person asked the former governor of Colorado if he was there to pick up media credentials. "I'm a candidate," Hickenlooper said, per a tweet by NPR reporter Scott Detrow.

Hickenlooper is running as a progressive, business-friendly candidate opposed to sweeping change such as "Medicare for All" and single-payer health care, Business Insider notes. He'll participate in the Thursday night debate with nine other candidates. Although the security mixup might have stung, the candidate tried to have the last laugh. "Last time, we elected the most famous candidate," Hickenlooper tweeted later in the afternoon. "Let’s try something new." (More John Hickenlooper stories.)
