She defeated her idol at Wimbledon, then dazzled some more by vanquishing another opponent with an amazing comeback—all at the age of 15. But the remarkable run of Cori "Coco" Gauff ended Monday in a fourth-round loss to Romania's Simona Halep, reports ESPN. Halep, who was once ranked No. 1 and remains one of the world's best players, won the match 6-3, 6-3. Gauff became the youngest player to qualify for Wimbledon in the modern era and fell just short of making the quarterfinals in her first-ever Grand Slam. In doing so, she became a "genuine star" in her own right, in the words of Sports Illustrated. (More women's tennis stories.)
