President Trump is still not backing down in his feud with four Democratic congresswomen of color, tweeting about them even as they held a joint press conference to discuss his attacks on them. On Sunday, Trump said the lawmakers, all of whom are US citizens, should "go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came," a statement that was quickly called possibly the "worst error" of his presidency and was decried by Democrats and Republicans alike. On Monday morning, he doubled down, posting yet more tweets about the women, and in the afternoon, as they held their press conference, he had more to say on Twitter:
- "We will never be a Socialist or Communist Country. IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY HERE, YOU CAN LEAVE! It is your choice, and your choice alone. This is about love for America. Certain people HATE our Country. They are anti-Israel, pro Al-Qaeda, and comment on the 9/11 attack, 'some people did something.' Radical Left Democrats want Open Borders, which means drugs, crime, human trafficking, and much more. Detention facilities are not Concentration Camps! America has never been stronger than it is now – rebuilt Military, highest Stock Market EVER, lowest unemployment and more people working than ever before. Keep America Great!
- Less than 20 minutes later, he added: "The Dems were trying to distance themselves from the four 'progressives,' but now they are forced to embrace them. That means they are endorsing Socialism, hate of Israel and the USA! Not good for the Democrats!"
Meanwhile,
CNN has the latest on the press conference, at which all four women spoke. Rep. Ilhan Omar called for Trump to be impeached, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley urged people not to take Trump's bait. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib also spoke. (More
