It's late July, and a surprising number of people have Halloween on their minds. A petition asking President Trump to change the date of Halloween from Oct. 31 to the last Saturday in October, which falls on Oct. 26 this year, is gathering steam and now has more than 65,000 signatures, the Hill reports. The petition was started by the Halloween & Costume Association, an industry group for makers and distributors of Halloween products.

The petition states that there are 3,800 Halloween-related injuries each year and 70% of parents don't accompany their children while trick-or-treating. It's not clear how shifting the date would improve the statistics, though CNN reports that trick-or-treating might start in daylight hours if it happens on a Saturday. The petition says 51% of millennials say Halloween is their favorite holiday, so "why cram it into 2 rushed evening weekday hours when it deserves a full day?" (More Halloween stories.)
