Some vindication for Stormy Daniels. Police officers violated rules of conduct when arresting the porn star at a Columbus, Ohio, strip club in July 2018, according to the Columbus Police Department. It brought departmental charges against five officers on Wednesday, per CNN, but did not publicly specify the violations. Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, sued over the arrest on misdemeanor charges of inappropriately touching customers at Sirens Gentlemen's Club, claiming it was retaliation for her very public battle with President Trump. The lawsuit she's filed against the city and police department, seeking more than $2 million in damages, names three of the five officers now facing disciplinary measures as registered Republicans or Trump supporters, per NBC News.
The charges against Daniels were quickly dropped, as were charges against two other women, which Daniels had argued were intended only to mask officers' political motivation. An internal investigation in March determined the arrests were inappropriate but not political, per NBC. "I can tell you today's announcement is not a reflection of the good work the overwhelming majority of officers and supervisors do every day," Police Chief Tom Quinlan said Wednesday. He said discipline, including possible termination, would be determined based on his recommendations and individual hearings.
