Rosanna Arquette likely thought her tweet would lend support in the fight against racial inequity, but that post ended up prompting ire from all circles. Per USA Today, the 59-year-old Pulp Fiction and Desperately Seeking Susan actress headed to Twitter Wednesday to talk about her status in the world, and it was a self-loathing takeaway. "I'm sorry I was born white and privileged. It disgusts me," she posted in her feed, which has since been locked so that only her followers can see her tweets. "And I feel so much shame." Among her immediate detractors were those who said her tweet was filled with prejudice, per the Washington Examiner. "Rosanna, hating all white people even if it is your own skin color does not make you any less a racist," one commenter noted.

But even those Arquette ostensibly was trying to appeal to were put off by her post, which some say was useless "virtue signaling to show how progressive she is." Jezebel notes that while her post was likely done "with the best of intentions," her delivery was lacking: "Is Twitter the correct medium for a personal or public reckoning with one's own whiteness and privilege? Doesn't seem like it!" At any rate, Arquette tells the Wrap she was told by the FBI to lock down her account, though it's not clear why. "There are toxic and very vicious people on social media. Threatening and cruel," she says. "I said yesterday (that) I am ashamed of the color of my skin. I am privileged just because I'm white. I feel shame. Because of all the violence that is happening in America and other racist countries." (More Rosanna Arquette stories.)
