On Monday, Rep. Rashida Tlaib became emotional when criticizing Israel's decision to block her official visit to the country. On Tuesday, President Trump said he doubted her sincerity during that news conference. "Sorry, I don’t buy Rep. Tlaib’s tears," he tweeted. "I have watched her violence, craziness and, most importantly, WORDS, for far too long. Now tears?" Trump then continued a theme he has used against Tlaib previously: "She hates Israel and all Jewish people. She is an anti-Semite. She and her 3 friends are the new face of the Democrat Party. Live with it!" The latter is a reference to The Squad, made up of Tlaib and Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Ayanna Pressley.

Tlaib had choked up when talking about her childhood. "As a young girl visiting Palestine to visit my family, I watched as my mother had to go through dehumanizing checkpoints even though she was a United States citizen and proud American," she said, per the Hill. She and Omar called the news conference to criticize Israel's decision, made at Trump's suggestion, to bar their visit. Tlaib had received a subsequent waiver to visit her grandmother in the West Bank, but decided not to accept it because of its restrictions on what she could do and say. (Tlaib also fired back against Bill Maher.)
