Prince Harry responded to the hubbub over his use of private jets while unveiling an eco-friendly travel initiative in Amsterdam on Tuesday. The Duke of Sussex said he spends "99% of my life traveling the world by commercial," but occasionally needs to fly on a private jet "to ensure that my family are safe." In such cases, "I have always offset my CO2" because "it's the right thing to do," the 34-year-old said, per Sky News. But "we are all responsible for our own individual impact" on the environment and "we can all do better."
In what People reports will be the first major project of the Sussex Royal Foundation, initiative Travalyst—in the works for two years, per CNN—will work with Visa, TripAdvisor, Booking.com, and other companies to offer more sustainable travel options. It also aims to protect ecosystems for future generations and funnel more tourism dollars into local communities. The "first-of-its-kind coalition" was "created to mobilize the travel industry as a catalyst for good, aiming to transform the future of travel for everyone," according to the prince's office.
