Coroner Allegedly Sent His Wife to Death Scenes

Coroners are allowed to send deputy coroners to a death scene to investigate, but a Colorado coroner is in hot water after allegedly sending his wife—who was not a sworn deputy—to investigate multiple death scenes this year. Shannon Kent, who was first elected Lake County coroner in 2012, was indicted by a grand jury for second-degree official misconduct Friday, the Denver Channel reports. "Coroner duties require investigating cause of death and taking the bodies of decedents who pass outside of hospitals when physicians are not in attendance," according to a news release from the Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s office obtained by the Denver Post.
