Andrew Yang made waves in the Democratic debate Thursday night with an unusual promise in his opening statement. The candidate said he would give away a total of $120,000 to people who registered to win "Freedom Dividends" at his campaign website, reports Politico. Yang, an entrepreneur, has promised to give every American a universal basic income of $1,000 a month. He says the 10 winners of the raffle will receive $1,000 a month for a year, financed by campaign donations. Fast Company calls the plan "possibly the best email-collection scheme ever devised by a politician." The next candidate to speak was Pete Buttigieg. "It's original. I'll give you that," he said to Yang. (More Andrew Yang stories.)
