Ivanka Trump tweeted a photo Saturday night of herself and husband Jared Kushner dressed to the nines, along with their three kids gathered around them—with the youngest decked out in a Star Wars Stormtrooper costume. "The Force is strong in my family," Trump captioned her photo. A post on Instagram featured a second photo of Trump, Kushner, and the tiny Stormtrooper. Infighting began almost immediately in the tweet's comments, with some lavishing praise on the family photo and the Trump family in general, while others took Trump to task and pointed out that the Stormtroopers are the bad guys in the franchise.
Then Luke Skywalker himself weighed in, and his words cut like a lightsaber. "You misspelled 'Fraud.' #GoForceYourself," Mark Hamill tweeted. Tom Sykes at the Daily Beast calls the Hamill tweet "stupid and petty," noting that "it's hard to make yourself look mean-spirited and intolerant next to the Trumps but, somehow, Hamill managed it." Per Fox News, some commenters claimed Hamill was attacking an innocent child dressed up as a favorite character, though others say it's clear Hamill was going after the adults—the Independent notes Hamill has long been a critic of the Trump administration, and of the president himself. At any rate, it doesn't look like the internet agrees with Sykes: As of Monday morning, Hamill's tweet had nearly 420,000 likes and almost 80,000 retweets. (More Mark Hamill stories.)
