A fan is facing a lifetime ban from a Mexican soccer club and a criminal investigation after groping American player Sofia Huerta. The man was posing for a selfie with the 26-year-old midfielder, who’d helped propel the Houston Dash of the National Women's Soccer League to a 2-1 victory over Tigres Feminil in a friendly match in San Nicolás de los Garza, Mexico, on Saturday, when he appeared to grab her chest, reports the New York Daily News. Tigres apologized "profusely" to Huerta, an Idaho native who's played for both the Mexican and US national women's teams, before saying the fan had been identified.
He will be "prohibited for life from entering any of our facilities and any women's or men's matches," Tigres says, per CNN. The Guardian reports a lawsuit has also been filed against the man, whose information was forwarded to "the respective authorities." Tigres adds it is "fully committed to eradicating in our stadium and in our community any form of harassment or situation that violates human dignity or seeks to intimidate, degrade, or offend women." Houston Dash echoes that sentiment in a separate statement. "Above all, our main priority is the security of the players and we thank Tigres' efforts to solve this matter," the club says.
