Jeff Sessions is seriously considering a run for the Senate seat he held for 20 years before briefly becoming President Trump's attorney general, sources tell the Washington Post and Politico. The sources say the 72-year-old Republican has been plotting a 2020 campaign strategy for the Alabama seat currently held by Democratic Sen. Doug Jones, although he will face a crowded field as well as likely criticism from Trump, who fired him in 2018 after attacking him dozens of times for recusing himself from the Russia investigation. If Sessions decides to run, which he will have to do before Nov. 8, he will face Rep. Bradley Byrne, Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill, former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville, and state Rep. Arnold Mooney in the GOP primary, as well as Roy Moore, who has controversially decided to run against Jones again. (More Jeff Sessions stories.)
