Juli Briskman was fired for giving President Trump the middle finger. Now, the former government contractor is an elected official herself. Briskman was fired in late 2017 after flipping the president's motorcade the bird in Sterling, Va., while riding her bike, with her employer saying she'd violated its social media policy on obscenity. CBS News reports the 52-year-old Democrat now has a new job to tend to: She won a seat Tuesday on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, beating out the GOP's Suzanne Volpe, who held that seat for eight years. Per NBC Washington, unofficial returns late Tuesday showed Briskman with 52% of the vote, with 99% reported.

Briskman's win capped off a big election night in Virginia, where Democrats flipped both houses of the state legislature. This will be her first time serving as an elected official. "Looking forward to representing my friends & neighbors in #Algonkian District who backed me up today!" Briskman tweeted after her victory. "It's feeling fantastic, it's feeling surreal," she adds to the Washington Post, which notes her district is where one of Trump's golf courses is located. Meanwhile, a wrongful-termination suit Briskman filed against the company that fired her was tossed in July 2018 after a judge found the First Amendment didn't cover her as a private-sector employee. A GoFundMe for Briskman raised nearly $150,000. (More Election 2019 stories.)
