Sports | golf Golfer Disqualified for a Very Strange Reason Eddie Pepperell lost all his balls By Polly Davis Doig Posted Nov 10, 2019 8:33 AM CST Copied Eddie Pepperell hits out of a bunker onto the 11th green during the second round of the PGA Championship tournament, Friday, May 17, 2019, at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, NY. (AP Photo/Charles Krupa) It was a less-than-magical day on the links for Eddie Pepperell, who was disqualified from the Turkish Airlines Open on Saturday for a rather unusual reason: He just plain ran out of golfballs. As ESPN reports, citing the golfers in his group, the British golfer was on the par-5 fourth hole when he sank all of his balls into the water. Which gives us this gem of a quote from playing partner Martin Kaymer: "Eddie hit his shots to the green then came over to tell us he had run out of balls. Then he walked off. I thought he lost four or five. We are about 80% sure it was five, 20% four. He was quick, so it was hard to keep track. He did not ask if he could borrow one from me or George. It did not look like he wanted to play. He did not putt with his putter on the third hole; he putted with a wedge. So there was a lot happening. I have never seen anything like that before. I only watched it on television, in Tin Cup. This is the first time I have seen it live." Read These Next President Trump just got offered a Nobel Peace Prize. It's the NRA vs. the NRA Foundation.
