Colin Kaepernick's much-publicized workout for at least 10 NFL teams ran into trouble Saturday and nearly didn't happen, TMZ reports. The quarterback-turned-activist had a noon workout scheduled at the Atlanta Falcons facility in Flowery Branch, Georgia, but his reps said the NFL asked him to sign an "unusual liability waiver" that "rejected the standard liability waiver from physical injury proposed by Mr. Kaepernick's representatives." The NFL also wouldn't let media attend, a deal-breaker for Kaepernick. So at the last minute, the workout was moved to a Riverdale high school about 60 miles away, per the AP.
Media was in attendance as the 32-year-old threw passes to free-agent receivers for roughly 40 minutes. A few team representatives also showed, including a Philadelphia Eagles official and possibly people from the Chiefs, Jets, and Redskins. "From the outset, Mr. Kaepernick requested a legitimate process and from the outset the NFL league office has not provided one," Kap's people said, per Yahoo Sports. "...Additionally, Mr. Kaepernick requested all media be allowed into the workout to observe and film it and for an independent film crew to be there to ensure transparency. The NFL denied this request." The NFL said it was "disappointed that Colin did not appear for his workout." (More Colin Kaepernick stories.)
