Gabrielle Union has expressed her thanks to supporters after being dropped from America's Got Talent. "So many tears, so much gratitude," the actress tweeted. "Just when you feel lost, adrift, alone ... you got me up off the ground." Union and Julianne Hough, both judges on the show, will not be back next season, CNN reports. An article in Variety reported that the firing came after Union had complained about a racial joke made on camera, and later edited out, and had been told repeatedly that her hairstyles were "too black." The article described a "toxic culture" at the program.
Ellen Pompeo is among those expressing support for Union. "It’s unfortunate that @nbc the same network that protected disgusting men like Matt Lauer and punished women for speaking out or not putting up with it … has not changed their practices or culture," the star of Grey's Anatomy tweeted Thursday. "I support @itsgabrielleu commitment to speaking up to injustice. It takes courage." Gray added that it was important to add that her show and network, ABC, have had problems, as well, per People.
