The image was scary: a kite surfer drifting out to sea. But this story had a happy ending after the unidentified surfer managed to find dry land, the Press of Atlantic City reports. It all began Thursday afternoon when a kite surfer called in saying his kite had malfunctioned and he was drifting away about 500 yards from Corsons Inlet near Ocean City, NJ. The Coast Guard sent out at least two vessels and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to find the lost surfer but saw only his kite, per CNN. Luckily he managed to paddle back in on his board and contacted authorities Friday saying he was OK. "This case highlights the effectiveness of the interagency search and rescue system," says Petty Officer 1st Class Alex Castonguay. (More surfing stories.)
