Former NBA Commissioner Suffers Brain Hemorrhage

Former NBA Commissioner David Stern underwent emergency surgery Thursday after suffering a sudden brain hemorrhage, the league says. The 77-year-old was rushed to the Mount Sinai West medical center from a Manhattan restaurant on Thursday afternoon, ESPN reports. Stern, a former lawyer, became NBA commissioner in 1984 and oversaw a massive boom period for the league over the next 30 years, reports ABC. He handed the reins to current commissioner Adam Silver in 2014, but retained the title "Commissioner Emeritus." He remained hospitalized late Thursday, though there was no word on his condition.
