They've separated before, but this might finally be the end of the marriage between Colin Firth and his wife, Livia Giuggioli. People confirms the two have split after 22 years of marriage, and almost two years after Giuggioli admitted to having an affair with another man while she and Firth were briefly separated in 2015 and 2016. "Colin and Livia Firth have separated," reps for the couple say in a statement. "They maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children. They kindly ask for privacy." The statement adds the couple won't be commenting further. In early 2018, the Firths revealed Livia's relationship with Italian journalist Marco Brancaccia, with Livia saying Brancaccia started stalking her after their nearly yearlong relationship ended in 2016.

Brancaccia said the extent of the alleged stalking included two WhatsApp messages, a happy birthday text, and an email to Colin Firth. Brancaccia was charged with stalking in May 2018; the case was settled out of court in July of that year. The Mirror reports that hints of stress in the marriage came even before that: In a 2011 interview with Piers Morgan, Firth noted the work involved in making their relationship work, saying they had to "navigate things on a daily basis." He added: "The real secret is time. We have to make sure that we spend enough time together. Every relationship in life you're going to have to take care of, there's a marathon factor to it." Colin, 59, and Livia, 50, have two boys, 18-year-old Luca and 16-year-old Matteo. (More Colin Firth stories.)
