Trump Takes a Jab at Pelosi From Florida

President Trump is spending two weeks at his Mar-a-Lago resort, but he's not totally leaving DC behind. On Monday morning he took to Twitter to rail against Nancy Pelosi and his impeachment, writing, "Pelosi gives us the most unfair trial in the history of the US Congress, and now she is crying for fairness in the Senate, and breaking all rules while doing so. She lost Congress once, she will do it again!" The Hill notes the House's impeachment inquiry was not a trial as Trump wrote. His words come amid Pelosi's decision to delay sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate until trial rules are put in place. The Washington Post reports Trump wasn't the only one who had impeachment on his mind Monday morning.

In an appearance on Fox & Friends, Mitch McConnell faulted Pelosi for her "absurd position," saying, "She's apparently trying to tell us how to run the trial. You know, I'm not anxious to have this trial, so if she wants to hold onto the papers, go right ahead. ... We can't do anything until the speaker sends the papers over, so everyone enjoy the holidays." Pelosi reiterated her position on Twitter, writing, "The House cannot choose our impeachment managers until we know what sort of trial the Senate will conduct." Politico explains that Democrats want to be able to call witnesses, which McConnell on Monday said Republicans "haven't ruled out," per the AP. It adds that White House officials think Pelosi will soon break. "She will yield. There's no way she can hold this position," Mike Pence's chief of staff Marc Short said Sunday.
