Colin Kaepernick hasn't played in the NFL since Barack Obama was president, but he is still a massive hit with Nike customers. The company's "Air Force 1 x Colin Kaepernick" shoe quickly sold out online after hitting the market Monday, though some stores might still have them in stock, CNN reports. "This Air Force 1 season, Nike partnered with a collective of collaborators to design an AF1 that connects to their life personally," Nike said in a statement, per CBS. "Colin was identified because we believe his voice and perspective inspire many generations on and off the field."
The shoe features the controversial quarterback's likeness on the heel tab and his logo on the tongue. The right shoe also has a message on the sole: "08 14 16." That marks the date Kaepernick, then a San Francisco 49ers player, refused to stand during the playing of the national anthem to protest racial injustice. He sparked a nationwide controversy after continuing to refuse to stand for the anthem in later games, saying he would not "stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people."
