President Trump delivered Christmas Eve greetings to US troops in a video call—during which he acknowledged he hadn't picked up a gift for his wife yet—but he was in less of a holiday mood afterward when speaking with reporters. Some highlights:

  • Nancy Pelosi: Trump again slammed the impeachment process as unfair and lashed out in particular at Nancy Pelosi, reports the Hill. "She hates the Republican Party," Trump told reporters. "She hates all of the people that voted for me and the Republican Party and she’s desperate." He added that "she got thrown out as speaker once before" and that "I think it's going to happen again."
  • Roger Stone: The longtime Trump ally faces up to 20 years in prison for lying to Congress and witness tampering at his February sentencing, notes the Palm Beach Post. On Tuesday, Trump said it's "very tough" what happened to Stone and maintained that he played a minimal role in the 2016 campaign. "Pardon him? Well, I haven’t thought of it," said the president. Stone is accused of coordinating the release of stolen Democratic emails with WikiLeaks during the 2016 race.

  • North Korea: Trump didn't sound too worried about North Korea's promise of a "Christmas gift," which many observers think might be a long-range ballistic missile test, reports CNN. Maybe it's a "beautiful vase instead of a missile test," said Trump. Either way, the US would "deal with it."
  • Melania's gift: During his call with the troops, a soldier asked Trump what he got the first lady. “That’s a tough question,” he said, per the Guardian. “I got her a beautiful card. … A lot of love. We love our family, and we love each other. We’ve had a great relationship, hopefully like you do with your spouses." He added: "I’m still working on a Christmas present. There’s a little time left. Not much, but a little time left."
