This might be the strangest political scandal of the holidays. Canada's CBC network aired Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and viewers noticed that a cameo by Donald Trump—in which Macaulay Culkin asks him for directions to the Plaza Hotel's lobby—was edited out. As Mediaite reports, pundits on Fox & Friends cried foul on Thursday. "Censorship," said Katie Pavlich, while Mark Steyn said it shows that Trump's critics don't want people to see him as the "beloved mainstream cultural figure" he was before becoming president. "I think they’re terrified of these little things that will remind people just how deranged his opponents are."
The CBC, however, says politics had nothing to do with it. "As is often the case with features adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited to allow for commercial time within the format," the network tells ComicBook.com. Trump is proud of the cameo. When talking to US troops earlier in the week via video, he mentioned it. "Well I'm in Home Alone 2," the president said, per Deadline. "A lot of people mention it every year, especially around Christmas. They say—especially young kids—they say, 'I just saw you on the movie.'" Trump added that it's "one of the biggest" Christmas movies and that "it's an honor to be involved in something like that." (More President Trump stories.)
