Disgraced Blagojevich Writes Impeachment Op-Ed

Rod Blagojevich has written an op-ed criticizing Democrats over the impeachment of President Trump, and the Chicago Tribune sees an unstated message. Though the essay by the imprisoned former governor never actually mentions Trump, "it’s an apparent continuation of his public campaign to win clemency from the Republican president," per the newspaper. Blagojevich has six years left on his conviction for public corruption (for trying to essentially sell Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat), and Trump has previously said he might commute the remainder of the sentence. Blagojevich's op-ed, published at the conservative Newsmax site, argues that Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats would have impeached Abraham Lincoln under the same standards they're applying to Trump.

Among other things, he cited Lincoln's offer of command of the North's army to Robert E. Lee. "Can't you see how a Speaker Pelosi and many of today's House Democrats would call for the appointment of a Special Counsel to investigate Lincoln for 'Confederate Collusion' and bring impeachment charges for abuse of power for offering the top military command to a guy who would go on to become the top military commander of the other side?" Blagojevich says his own impeachment gives him a "unique perspective" on what's currently happening in DC. No word from Trump, at least on Blagojevich. The president did criticize the impeachment process himself on Thursday, labeling it the "CRIME OF THE CENTURY" in a pair of tweets. (More Rod Blagojevich stories.)
