You'd think we should settle the 2020 presidential election first, but a poll has jumped ahead to gauge support for possible GOP nominees in 2024. The SurveyMonkey poll, conducted for Axios, found a significant portion of voters who are Republicans or lean that way haven't gotten enough of a Trump presidency yet. Asked who they'd consider voting for from a list of possible candidates, 40% picked Mike Pence. In second place was Donald Trump Jr., with 29%. Nikki Haley drew 26% and Ivanka Trump 16%, edging out familiar Republican officeholders including Marco Rubio and Mike Pompeo. The poll was conducted just before President Trump was impeached.

The eldest Trump child has built his popularity among his father's backers as a strident supporter of the president. He's the opening act at his father's rallies, has 4.2 million followers on Twitter and wrote a bestseller, Triggered. The Guardian's review saw the book as part of launching Trump's political career, pronouncing the president's namesake as more substantial that Ivanka's husband, Jared Kusher, and "a lot more fun than Mike Pence." Ivanka Trump has sat in for her father at meetings of world leaders and taken credit for policies including sentencing changes and paid family, per the Guardian. "I honestly think Don Jr. or Ivanka will be the nominee in 2024," Republican strategist Rick Wilson said, per the Los Angeles Times. (Joe Biden said he hasn't thought about 2024 yet.)
