Awkwafina Makes History With Golden Globes Win

Included in the winners' list at the Golden Globes on Sunday night is a name that marks a milestone: Awkwafina became the first Asian-American woman to win a Globe as best actress in a film, reports the New York Times. The 31-year-old won in the musical or comedy category for her role The Farewell. “If I fall upon hard times, we can sell this,” Awkwafina said in her acceptance speech. “So that’s good.” In a more serious vein, she thanked writer/director Lulu Wang for giving her the "chance of a lifetime." The movie is about a family trying to keep the news of a grim medical prognosis from their elderly matriarch, and Awkwafina plays her granddaughter.
