Tips Helped Lead Police to Suspect in Disappearance
Heidi Broussard   (Austin Police Department)

A affidavit portrays Heidi Broussard and Magen Fieramusca as supportive friends who were both pregnant, wondering if they'd deliver on the same day. But Fieramusca was not pregnant and is now jailed in Texas. Broussard, 33, gave birth but was soon found dead in the trunk of her car, her infant daughter missing. The nine-page filing says Fieramusca began to act suspiciously after Broussard gave birth to Margot, USA Today reports. Police said Fieramusca faked the pregnancy for months, then passed off the newborn as her own to her boyfriend, per KVUE. She drove from Houston to South Austin the day after Broussard gave birth to Margo to see them, the filing says. At the hospital, Fieramusca surprised the girl's paternal grandfather by asking to hold Margot before he did.

Fieramusca, 33, has a court date Feb. 3 on charges of kidnapping and evidence tampering. The affidavit provided details about the investigation leading to her arrest: A resident's surveillance video showed a car like hers at Broussard's apartment complex in Austin on Dec. 12, the day Broussard and her daughter disappeared. Cellphone records showed Fieramusca was in the area at the time. A witness said she saw two women and a baby leave in the apartment complex in a car on that day or the day before. Police said they found that Fieramusca had conducted internet searches for such phrases as "reasons for Amber Alert" and "Amber alert issued Austin." On Dec. 14, investigators said, Fieramusca searched for "bodies found in Austin Texas." When officers showed a photo of Margot to the owner of the home where Fieramusca was living, according to the affidavit, he said, "That's the baby at my house." (Early in the investigation, Broussard's fiance said there was little to go on.)
