There's now a conspicuously empty space in the royal family display at London's iconic wax museum, Madame Tussauds. The museum removed the wax figures of Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, from its "Royal Family" set, where they used to stand across from Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, behind the figures of the queen and Prince Philip. Also included in the display are Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. The move comes, of course, after Harry and Meghan's shock announcement that they are going to step back as senior members of the royal family. The AP reports that the rest of the royals were "scrambling to contain the fallout" Thursday, as the British media published articles condemning the couple's decision. The statement from the museum, however, was sympathetic.

"Alongside the rest of the world we are reacting to the surprising news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be stepping back as senior Royals," the general manager says in a statement obtained by CNN. "From today, Meghan and Harry's figures will no longer appear in our Royal Family set. As two of our most popular and well-loved figures they will of course remain an important feature at Madame Tussauds London as we watch to see what the next chapter holds for the them." A rep for the museum's New York museum echoes that statement: "To reflect the announcement we will be moving the popular figures to another area in the attraction upon their return to Madame Tussauds New York. We look forward to spending more time with the couple in North America and we will continue to watch to see what the next chapter holds for them." (What's next for Meghan and Harry?)
