The real question is: Will the fish be able to hear it? If you've ever worried that your dog or cat might get lonely while you're at work, Spotify has come up with an official solution, per Reuters: pet-geared playlists and podcasts. After the company's research revealed that lots of pet owners leave music playing for their animals when they have to go out, Spotify created a dedicated website where humans can go to get a list of tracks specifically geared toward their particular pets' personalities.

The Verge reports that users simply note what kind of pet they have—in addition to dog and cat, other options include iguana, bird, and hamster—then plug in their pet's name and photo, as well as the animal's defining character traits, like whether they're laid-back or hyper. There's also a canine-focused podcast "designed to encourage your dog to relax through calming gentle praise and story-like speech accompanied by original music and gentle ambient sounds," a pet psychologist who worked on the podcast tells Complete Music Update. Other nuggets that emerged from Spotify's research, and which helped drive this development: More than 40% of owners say their pets have a favorite music genre, and 25% have witnessed their pets dancing.
