Chase and Nicole McKeown had dinner on their wedding night—six months ago—at a Raising Cane's in Louisville. For date night last weekend, the two off-duty police officers went back. This also was a date to remember, NPR reports. In the middle of their meal, an armed man walked in and went to the counter, confronting the cashier. "I saw her hands go up like this and I'm like, 'Is he doing what I think he's doing?'" Nicole McKeown said she asked her husband. The officers jumped up and pulled their weapons, circling the man.
He dropped his gun and ran down the street, where the officers caught him and held him until Louisville officers arrived. The McKeowns work in Elizabethtown, about 40 miles from Louisville. On Wednesday, the restaurant chain rewarded the officers by covering their chicken tab for a year. "Thanks for protecting our customers and crew," a statement said, per the Courier-Journal. The Elizabethtown Police Department said it "couldn't be more proud." The suspect is charged with first-degree robbery. (More off-duty cop stories.)
