At $47 million a year, Judy Sheindlin is the highest-paid personality on the small screen, and her Judge Judy show is one of the top-rated programs in syndication. On Monday, however, Sheindlin will appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to deliver some big news about her eponymous series: It's coming to a close after 25 seasons, per the Hollywood Reporter. "CBS sort of felt, I think, they wanted to optimally utilize the repeats of my program," Sheindlin told DeGeneres, noting production will continue for the 2020-21 season and then shutter. But, the 77-year-old added, "I'm not tired," announcing what Variety calls "perhaps the most seismic shift to happen in the syndication business since Oprah Winfrey announced her departure."
That reveal: Sheindlin has a new show in the works called Judy Justice, though she's staying tight-lipped on details, including where fans will be able to catch it. "I can't tell you yet," she cryptically told DeGeneres, though it seems it won't be on CBS. After one more year of the newly produced Judge Judy shows, there will be reruns for a "couple of years," with Judy Justice "going elsewhere," she told DeGeneres.
