Carole Baskin spoke to a newspaper after the release of Tiger King made her a household name, but she hadn't done a video interview—until a couple of YouTube pranksters tricked her into giving one. As TMZ reports, Archie Manners and Josh Pieters dupe celebrities into thinking they're giving interviews to late-night talk show hosts, and their latest target was Baskin, the big-cat rescue operator and activist who many people, thanks to the Netflix series, now think killed her last husband and fed him to her tigers. When approached, she initially cited her no-interview policy, but the jokesters, pretending to be producers for Jimmy Fallon's Late Show, ultimately convinced her to do a Zoom sit-down.
Baskin seems to be taking the whole thing in stride. "I was suspicious as we were doing it because the questions appeared taped," she tells E! Online. "But had no idea it would turn out to be such a fun prank. It gave us a very welcome good laugh. I appreciate their cleverness and that they created their video in a way that I don't feel was in any way mean spirited." Watch the interview here for more on how they pulled it off, including getting Baskin to say her signature catchphrase. (More Tiger King stories.)
