John Lewis' Name Takes Over for Robert E. Lee's

One of the nation's many Robert E. Lee High Schools will soon no longer be named after the Confederate general. The Fairfax, Virginia, school will be re-named John R. Lewis High School, effective this school year, after a unanimous vote by the school board Thursday, USA Today reports. "I believe that John Lewis’ extraordinary life and advocacy for racial justice will serve as an inspiration to our students and community for generations to come," a Fairfax County school board member says of the civil rights icon, who died last Friday. Forbes notes at least 202 schools across the US are still named after Confederate figures, with more than 50 of those named after Lee. (More John Lewis stories.)
