A day after her surprise announcement that she was leaving the White House, top Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway addressed the issue briefly. "How am I doing? I’m good," she told a reporter outside the White House, per People. "I make my own choices." She also said she would be keeping her speaking slot at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday. On Sunday, Conway said she was leaving her post to focus on her four children with husband George Conway, a frequent Trump critic. Her husband is similarly leaving his political post at the Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump conservative group. Coverage:

  • Not silent: The Conways' 15-year-old daughter, Claudia Conway, posted social media videos about her parents' statements. "Look at what I did, ladies and gentlemen," said the teen, who has attracted a large following with anti-Trump posts of her own. She wrote, "they think this is gonna stop me from getting emancipated?" Prior to posting the videos late Sunday, Claudia had said she would be taking a break from social media. Business Insider has background on her very public criticism of both parents in recent months, which appeared to play a large role in their decisions to leave their public positions.

  • 'Big blow': White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said Conway's departure is a "big blow" to the administration, reports Politico, which notes that she is one of Trump's longest-serving aides. She was also the campaign chief when Trump won the 2016 election. “But listen, this is all about making a priority for family. That’s what this president’s about, and that’s what Kellyanne Conway’s about.”
  • Earlier trouble: At Vanity Fair, Charlotte Klein writes that "the Conways’ relationship has suffered under the Trump administration, a public spousal feud rooted in their opposing political views that broke into the open thanks to a 2018 Washington Post profile." She notes that a Republican close to George Conway told her colleague Gabriel Sherman in a similarly themed profile last year, "He tells people she’s in a cult."
  • Apatow slam: Filmmaker Judd Apatow unleashed on Kellyanne Conway after her announcement. "Seems like someone who quits their job to try to take better care of their daughter probably should reflect on all the families she helped separate, and all of the people who are dead because she lied about the dangers of Covid-19 to attempt to make Trump look good," he wrote. He also called on her to denounce Trump.
  • In defense: At the conservative RedState site, Mike Miller blames the mess on George Conway and "political intolerance" from within her own family. George Conway's constant bullying of her on social media was too much, he writes. "Imagine the histrionic hissy fits the left-wing media would throw if Kellyanne Conway were a liberal, working in Barack Obama’s White House, let’s say, and was finally driven from her job by an overbearing jealous husband and an insolent teenager who bashes her mom unmercifully—politically and personally—on social media."
  • Parting shot: In an interview conducted before his newly announced hiatus, George Conway called Trump "a practical joke that got out of hand," reports the Hill. In the documentary #Unfit, he said Trump's remark that lawmakers such as AOC and Rashida Tlaib should "go back" to where they're from reminded him of slams against his Filipino mother. "I was with my mother when I was a teenager in a parking lot in Massachusetts, and somebody said to her, ‘Go back to your country,'" Conway said. "It really came home to me: This man is a racist, he is evil.”
