White House Issues Trump Health Update

The White House issued an upbeat statement about President Trump's health Wednesday that included positive details while leaving a few questions unanswered, the Wall Street Journal reports. "The President this morning says 'I feel great!'" writes White House physician Sean Conley in the short message. "His physical exam and vital signs, including oxygen saturation and respiratory rate, all remain stable and in normal range." Conley adds that Trump has been "fever-free" for over four days, without symptoms for a day, and functioning without "any supplemental oxygen" since returning to the White House on Monday. • Top presidential economic advisor Larry Kudlow said Trump "showed up in the Oval Office" Tuesday with "extra precautions," but refused to say whether the president wore a mask, CNBC reports. Pressed about Trump's mask use by Squawk Box host Joe Kernen, Kudlow said he "can't be specific, Joe," adding that "everyone else who comes into contact in the Oval—the traffic is limited as you might expect—but there are additional precautions, additional measures that have been taken." (The White House contradicted Kudlow to some extent, saying Trump only returned to the Oval Office on Wednesday.)
• Conley is keeping quiet about Trump's lung scans and chest X-rays, which doctors say are crucial for understanding the president's degree of COVID-19 infection. "If their goal is for us to understand more completely what is going on, they have left a lot of very useful information off the table," a pulmonary critical care specialist at UCSF School of Medicine tells the New York Times.
• Another doctor says Trump's decision-making could be impaired by the steroids in his virus treatment, KRON4 reports. "His doctors or other experts need to be assessing him for impairment every day," says Robert Wachter, head of the medicine department at UCSF. He tells TMZ that Trump wouldn't be allowed to pilot a plane with his current steroid dosage.
